Principles of Compass Family Mediation
At Compass Family Mediation we fully comply with the Family Mediation Council’s Code of Conduct for Mediators. Our practice is anchored by four core principles of Family Mediation.
Voluntary Participation: Attending family mediation is entirely your choice, if you decide mediation is not for you, you can pause or stop the process at any time. No decisions can be forced upon you.
Impartiality: The family mediator is there to facilitate constructive communication between the parties. They will not take sides, judge who is right or wrong, or give personal legal advice.
Confidentiality: The whole process is without prejudice. Discussions and proposals within family mediation are private. If an agreement is not reached, the court will generally never be told what was discussed. Exceptions only apply if there is a risk of harm to a child or vulnerable adult.
Participant-Led Decision Making: You and your ex-partner remain in total control of the outcome. The family mediator does not make decisions; they help you craft solutions that work for your specific family.
